As we click-clack our way through the pages of Style.com on at least a weekly basis, we savor the seconds before we get to Nicole Phelps' musings, knowing that once we read her, we will have wished we had saved it for one moment longer.
Executive Editor at Style.com and long time Seagull friend, Nicole's writings on the fashion scene are smart, expository and always precise. There is no mincing of words when she sees something not so fresh and no lack of applause and praise when she loves a thing. There is a warmth in her writing, and her words seem for the people by the people. Here are a couple of recent quotes for fall 2009 runway shows.
Mark Jacobs Fall 2009:
Maybe it was the recent Stephen Sprouse project he completed at Louis Vuitton, or perhaps it's the fact that he now lives in Paris full time, but his Fall show was a big, juicy nostalgic kiss to a city that doesn't really exist anymore.
Missoni Fall 2009:
The multilayered hippie-meets-hip-hop look will be tricky to pull off anywhere south of the polar ice cap (photo shoots excepted), but taken in smaller doses, these are the kind of cozy, feel-good clothes that actually have a chance of selling in the new economy.
We think she is dead on with Missoni... We would rock that shit ANY day. We always love a visit from Nicole and look forward to hearing her thoughts on the rest of the goings on in the world. Her eye is sharp and our common denominator is an ability to put on our punk rock filter, receive and transmit information with a scholar's penmanship.
