So I've been watching more videos lately (MGMT, Friendly Fires) and I'm seeing a lot of 1 dimensional collage-like visual art and it's all base on a mix of Edward Gorey and this;
Ezra Jack Keats is credited for introducing multiculturalism into mainstream children's literature.
But what I'm noticing that is being referenced in art now is his use of mixed media and collage, specifically the unexpected patterns and use of blocks of color together. It is visually striking and timely (it was the early 70's and psych stuff was still abounding).
Anyway, Ezra's are great books for urban kids as most of his stories take place in the city.
I'm gonna buy them on Amazon for Goldie right now!
