Seagull uber VIP Julianne Escobedo Shepherd came in yesterday and laid down some FACTZ.
Formerly the executive editor of The FADER, Julianne is a Brooklyn-based freelance writer and edtor and an associate editor at AlterNet. Her work has appeared in VIBE, SPIN, The New York Times, and various other magazines and websites.
For her new haircut, Julianne came in with the idea of incorporating a kind of fucked up, wrongish bang inspired by a wig sported by Stella Tenant for some FW12 Chanel campaign ads. Nice.
She mentioned that she had attended and covered the Gathering of Juggalos 2013 for SPIN Magazine, and, of course, my interest was piqued. The conversation about the Gathering ignited a stream-of-consciousness rapid-fire exchange that included Mexican goth/SoCal imagery, creepers at Trash and Vaudeville, and mainstream middle American subcultural phenomenon.
As is usual around this time of year, the conversation turned to NYC Fashion Week and the very serious questions around personal identity and personal style that NYC Fashion Week that it always drudges up. And thank goddess the conversation ensues... I mean, I don't really give a fuck about Snooki and her baby.
