Currently on heavy rotation in the salon is the new album Behold, A Pale Horse by singer-songwriter and producer Ebony Bones. And it's giving us an endless source of inspiration!
I've been waiting for a new album by Ebony Bones for awhile now, ever since I heard her first album Bone of My Bones. Aside from being totally gorgeous, Ebony's great personal style and her music were instantly appealing. It's impossible to ignore her bold image.
And the theatricality of her performance makes it no wonder why designer Jean-Charles de Castelbajac wanted her to provide the music for his spring-summer 2010 show.
For Behold, Ebony progresses her music from the cool tribal art-funk-rock sound of Bone of My Bones to something more electronic, experimental and darker. Never depressing, of course---this is Ebony Bones! But she's definitely creating more of an atmosphere on her new album. She's even comfortable taking the back seat on some tracks: her vocals don't become prominent until the third track and on the fifth track she lets the London Childrens Choir sing a nice cover of a Smiths song.
Behold, A Pale Horse is proof that Ebony Bones is an artist in her own right. She's fresh and giving us something new to listen to. And that's exactly what the world needs right now. I've got tons of excitement for her future work. It's only going to get cosmic from here, people!
Listen to Behold, A Pale Horse as soon as you can! And be on the lookout for Ebony Bones in NYC.
